There are various methods used for bulk stock removal:

LAPPING produces tight tolerance parts with controlled surface finish. Either by single sided lapping machines or double sided planetary lapping machines, the choice depends on the size of the part, material, and required tolerances.

There are half a dozen abrasives, but only one is best for your product. The grain size of the abrasive will determine stock removal rate and surface finish. Abrasive choices may include:

• Boron Carbide
• Silicon Carbide
• Aluminum Oxide
• Emery Abrasive
• Mixtures of the above

POLISHING may be accomplished by numerous different processes. Your best option depends on numerous factors including:

• What is your final surface finish requirement?
• What are your flatness, parallelism and thickness specifications?
• Most importantly, what material?
